Project Description

Core Monthly Paddles –  Come Visit one of  our many lighthouses in Nova Scotia

The aim of the paddles is to get people out on the water to explore many different areas around Nova Scotia.  We have chosen 8 different lighthouse that we plan on visiting this summer.  Our Goal over the next few years is to arrange paddles to visit as many lighthouses in Nova Scotia as we can.

Definitions what to expect during these programs 

Comfortable Beginner Program – What sea conditions can I expect on this program?

You need to have own your own kayak and all required transport Canada requirements. You should be comfortable paddling 10 nautical miles a day with winds of 5-10 knots with one-foot wind chop. It is advised that you have some formal training in wet exits and rescues.

All programs are limited to 8 participant’s and pre-registration Is required.  The program fee is $35 per trip. Participants are required to provide their own kayaking gear and meals for the day

May 27, 2017 – McNabs Island

  We will launch from Eastern Passage and circumnavigate the island during the day.  McNabs Island is located in Halifax Harbour and has plenty of stories to tell from the past.  This will be a great trip to kick off the season.

June 3 Liscomb Island Paddle

Explore the wonders of the Eastern Shore.  During the paddle along the eastern shore we will visit the Liscomb Island Lighthouse. Plenty of small islands to explore along the way to the lighthouse.

June 17 – Mosher Island – LaHave Islands

Lehave Islands are a gem on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, warm water and nice beaches grace this lovely shoreline. Come and explore the Lighthouse on Mosher Islands during our paddle around this area.

July 1 – Happy Canada Day

Come celibrate 150 years of Canada with us and paddle one of the two National Parks that are along the coast in Nova Scotia. Join us and paddle the Kejimkujik Sea Side Adjunct.

July 8 – Blue Rocks

A hidden gem on the South Shore of Nova Scotia.  a paddlers destination.

July 22 – Cape Sable Island Lighthouse

 
During this paddle we will attempt a circumnavigate of the island. Cape Sable is well known for it’s many beaches.  The lighthouse located on Cape Sable Island know as “The Hawk” is the tallest lighthouse in Nova Scotia.

August 5 – Sambro Island

Located only about 30 mins outside of Halifax. Sambro is a small fishing port and home of the Inshore rescues station for the Canadian Coast Guard. During the paddle we will explore the many islands in and around Sambro. During the trip we will visit the lighthouse on Sambro Island.

August 26 – Beaver Island

A small island located off the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia.  Beaver Island is visited by mostly migratory birds such as common terns and more.  This rugged and barren island is a must see on the Eastern Shore on Nova Scotia.  Once you visit you will get an idea how the lighthouse keepers may have felt living on this remote island.

September 9 – Betty Island

Betty Island has a wonderful Lighthouse located at the southern tip of the Island.  Come explore the area.
